The Frida Hartley Shelter has been in operation since 1922, so they just had their 100th birthday!
Our team visited the shelter to give the ladies there some relaxing massages and hand over our donation of 1% of all invoices for 2022. We got the full tour, the shelter houses about 25 ladies and there is no limit on how many children a woman has with her. Frida Hartley Shelter provides a safe haven for women who need to get back on their feet, often needing to escape an abusive relationship.
The Shelter provides them with skills such as computer skills, sewing and barista training to name a few. Voluntary image consultants come in and help the ladies prepare for interviews and work on their self-confidence. The ladies are offered therapy as well as music therapy and when they start working, there is no rush to leave the shelter. Guidance in financial wellness and budgeting is provided to make sure they can manage a deposit on a new home, rent and living expenses.
The Shelter also has an in house creche that cares for little ones so that mothers can go to work without feeling worried about babies care.
We are so inspired by this amazing place, paying it forward always reminds us that we can do something small to make a big difference to someone else. What really stood out was how happy the ladies there are, even through tough times, they clearly feel comfortable and at home. Everyone chips in on chores and the running of the house, it is a family of sisters.
